SAMS Conducts Specialized Neonatal Resuscitation Training in Hama and Homs as Part of the January 2026 Mission

As part of the Syrian American Medical Society’s (SAMS) ongoing efforts to support continuing medical education and strengthen physician competencies, the SAMS Institute for Medical Education, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, conducted a series of specialized practical training sessions in neonatal care in Hama and Homs during the January 2026 medical mission.

In Hama, the National Maternity and Children’s Hospital hosted a two-day neonatal resuscitation course delivered by Dr. Mohannad Adnan Moallem, Professor of Pediatrics and Neonatal Intensive Care Specialist at Indiana University – United States. The training focused on the Neonatal Resuscitation Program, including case discussions and practical scenarios through interactive workshops, aiming to enhance clinical skills and preparedness in managing critical neonatal cases.

In Homs, Al-Birr Hospital conducted a hands-on training session also led by Dr. Moallem, targeting pediatric residents and specialists. The program emphasized practical aspects of neonatal care within pediatrics, providing participants with opportunities to develop clinical competencies and improve readiness in managing both common and complex cases in neonatal units, in line with SAMS’ vision to support applied medical education and improve healthcare quality for children in Syria.
