SAMS Organizes Practical Pathology Workshop in Homs as Part of January 2026 Medical Mission

As part of the January 2026 medical mission implemented in Syria by the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS), the SAMS Institute for Medical Education organized a Practical Pathology Workshop in collaboration with Al-Birr Association Hospital and Social Services in Homs.

The workshop targeted resident physicians from various specialties coming from the universities of Idlib, Homs, and Damascus. It included intensive hands-on training focused on diagnosing rare tumors, with emphasis on applied pathology cases.

The workshop was delivered by Dr. Mohammad Othman, Pathology Specialist from the United States, and Dr. Ghanem Sanbali, Pathology Specialist from the United States currently practicing in Saudi Arabia. Training covered practical cases in Head and Neck, Gynecological, Genitourinary, and Gastrointestinal pathology, including differential diagnosis discussions and the use of immunohistochemistry to reach final diagnoses.

The workshop was conducted in an interactive scientific environment that facilitated knowledge exchange between residents and faculty, reflecting the SAMS Institute’s ongoing efforts to strengthen practical medical education and enhance the capacity of healthcare professionals in Syria.
